TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Tallahassee woman is facing felony charges after shooting at her son because he refused to leave her property.
Tammy Ranson, 54, was arrested by the Leon County Sheriff's Office on June 29.
On June 29, at about 2:30 p.m., deputies responded to a home on Stonewood Lane in response to a disturbance.
While on their way to the scene, dispatch told deputies the female caller stated she was armed with a gun and "is going to shoot him," in reference to her son. Dispatch also told officers her son could be heard yelling that "she already shot."
When deputies arrived on scene, they made contact with the victim. While talking with deputies, initially all he stated was "she shot at me."
After deputies were able to calm him down, he stated his mother, Ranson, had been arguing with him.
He said that during the course of the argument, she demanded he leave the property. He told officers he lived there and didn't have to leave, so he wasn't going to leave.
Ranson kept yelling, and during the argument, the victim admitted he flipped a table. That's when Ranson went to get her gun and fired a gunshot in her son's direction.
When deputies talked to Ranson about it, she said it started when she picked her son "up from the jail yesterday" and brought him back to the residence.
Ranson said the two started drinking when she stated she realized he "was never gonna change" and kept messing up, at which time she demanded he leave "my property."
After her son flipped the table, Ranson admitted to going inside the house to get her handgun from her room.
Ranson stated she then went back outside and demanded he leave. When he refused, she "pointed the gun away from him and fired one shot."
He still refused to leave, so she said she locked herself in the house, "until he came around to the front door."
She stated she armed herself with a "maglight" style flashlight when the victim was on the front porch because she, "really didn't want to shoot him, but I wanted him to leave."
Arrest documents state she then opened the door and "hit him with the flashlight at least once on his side, I saw it turn red. Then I hit him a couple more times, and he still would not leave."
At that time, Ranson shot another round, and when the victim ran away, she entered the house and called 911.
Based on the evidence police found on the scene as well as Ranson's statements, she was arrested for domestic aggravated assault and domestic aggravated battery.
A judge has ordered she is to have no contact with her son and is to surrender all her firearms.
