TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)--A scammer, pretending to be a deputy, is trying to take money from residents. Over the weekend, several residents in Leon County contacted the sheriff's office after receiving phone calls from (850) 253-5254.

The caller identified himself as a deputy with the Leon County Sheriff's Office. The caller said he had obtained warrants for the arrest of the person being called. The caller also demanded that $1,375 be paid by depositing money onto a Reload It Banking System card at Winn Dixie in order to avoid being taken to jail.

The Leon County Sheriff's Office says they will not attempt to collect money over the telephone. If you have been the victim of this scam or have any information about it, you're asked to contact the Leon County Sheriff's Office at (850) 606-5800.
