TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Leon County Sheriff's Office says thousands of dollars have been stolen from citizens through a new scam call circulating the area.
According to LCSO, they have received several citizen complaints about the phone scam.
Deputies say the scam starts with the caller stating that there was a fraudulent charge on your debit card. Then the caller asked for the three digits on the back of your card.
They say the scam caller may also ask for the last four numbers of your cards as well as other information.
LCSO says the caller then uses that information to make actual fraudulent charges to your account. In fact, several local victms have had thousands of dollars stolen through this scam.
The sheriff's office warns you should never provide your banking account information to a caller. Your bank already knows your information.
If ever in doubt, hang up and call or visit your bank directly. If you believe you've received a scam call, call the Leon County Sheriff's Office at (850) 606-3300.
