TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Leon County Sheriff's Office teamed up again with Farm Share to pass out food to the community on Thursday.

The department had 13,000 pounds of food that they handed out for free beginning Thursday morning.

Starting at 8 a.m., the Leon County Sheriff's Office passed out fresh fruits, vegetables and groceries from farmers throughout the area to anyone for free.

Deputies showed up a few hours early to bag the groceries up so that they could walk them right over to people when they arrived.

They do these handouts quarterly as a part of the All In Initiative

"We also want to be All In," said Shonda Knight, an LCSO spokesperson. "We want everyone to know that we are here to keep you safe and a great part of that is having a relationship with the residents of Leon County. And so this is one way that we can really show compassion and get to know the citizens of our community and let them know that we are here for whatever you need."

The event was held in the parking lot between the Department of Health and the Leon County Sheriff's Office on Municipal Way.

Farm Share is a statewide program.

The initiative has taken off. LCSO says many other Sheriff's Department's have reached out to them for guidance on starting their own food handouts.

There was enough food to feed 400 families and it was all gone in just a little over two hours.
