TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Tallahassee man is facing drug charges after telling deputies a two ounce bag of cocaine was thrown inside his car by another man wanted by U.S. Marshals.
Jerrell Richardson, 29, was arrested by the Leon County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, deputies responded to the area of Appleyard Drive to help the United States Marshal Service arrest a man who had outstanding warrants.
As deputies approached the car where the man was standing, Richardson, who was the driver of the car, looked back at deputies and drove off.
According to the police report, Richardson hit a curb and drove up on to a concrete barrier, breaking the curb and causing $1,000 in damage. He then got out of the car and began to run, right before being tased by a U.S. Deputy Marshal.
While talking with deputies, Richardson said that the man, who was standing next to his car, yelled, "Police, Police, Police!"
Richardson said he didn't know what was happening and got scared. He stated he saw deputies try to stop him, but still tried to run because he was scared.
Documents say deputies decided to search the car. Inside, they found a plastic bag containing two ounces of cocaine in the center console.
Richardson told deputies he didn't know the cocaine was inside his car. However, he later said that Butler threw the bag of cocaine in the car and he panicked, placing it in the center console.
Based on the evidence, Richardson is being charged with fleeing law enforcement, resisting law enforcement officer without violence, hit and run leaving the scene of a traffic crash with property damage, and possession of cocaine.
Richardson was taken to the Leon County Detention Center and placed on $36,000 bond. He has since bonded out.
