LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Leon County Sheriff's Office crews simulated an active shooter situation at Montford Middle School Thursday.
The SWAT team, hostage team, and the bomb squad were present in the scenarios.
The simulation involved two shooters in the gymnasium of the school and included replica pipe bombs.
Deputy Sheriff Dave Teems says this type of training is essential in case this would happen for real.
"The first time we see this stuff isn't going to be when it happens if it happens. We obviously want to see this stuff ahead of time, have our guys trained," said Teems. "We are constantly to trying to be prepared just in case it happens here. We have to be prepared."
Teems says the crews will go through various scenarios throughout the evening for a total of eight hours.
