TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - As you're traveling for the holiday season, your empty home could be a target for burglars.

But the Leon County Sheriff's office has some tips to protect your belongings:

They advise that you get to know your neighbors and find someone you trust to check on your home.

You should use automatic timers for your lights, so it will make it look like someone is home. You can also call the Leon County Sheriff's Office to do a home welfare check.

They say you should also put a hold on your mail or have a neighbor pick it up. Piles of mail left around are also a clear sign that no one's home.
