TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Dozens of families in Eastpoint are now left with nothing but the clothes on their backs following the massive wildfire that swept through some neighborhoods Sunday evening.
On Thursday the Leon County Sheriff's Office will lend a helping hand to those families.
WTXL ABC's Jada Williams is Thursday at the Sheriff's Office.
Deputies will hand deliver essentials they have collected to those families in Franklin County.
Donations they have collected are stacked up in the LCSO office.
The Leon County Sheriff's Office has drop off locations throughout the area, including Immanuel Baptist CHurch on Mahan Drive and the This and That Thrift Store in Cairo, Georgia.
They are accepting items such as linen, towels and cleaning supplies.
The office is accepting donations until noon Thursday.
Deputies say the idea to help out was a no brainer.
"Any time we can help out, either it be here in Leon County, Franklin County, we always do," said Deputy Dave Teems. "We're all in this together and anytime we can help each other out, we always do."
The caravan will leave this afternoon headed for Eastpoint.
Common items to donate are blankets and toiletries, but there are other donation suggestions.
Some uncommon donations items that are critical include shovels, rakes, gloves and first aid kits. These are important because those families are now cleaning up what the fire left behind.
