TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Tallahassee man was arrested after deputies say he assaulted a pregnant woman over a missing hat.

According to court documents, on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Leon County deputies responded a domestic battery call on Ocala Road.

Deputies say when they arrived on the scene the suspect had already left. They proceeded to speaking with the victim who is three months pregnant.

Deputies identified the suspect as 21-year-old Terence Brown. The victim told deputies that Brown became angry over a missing hat, so he grabbed his shoe and began hitting her with it. The victim said Brown also punched her in the the head.

Documents say at some point Brown took the victim's phone and smashed it on the floor.

When witnesses who were also in the home left to call law enforcement, Brown retaliated by taking their shoes and throwing them in a nearby pond. He also smashed their phones and Bluetooth speakers.

Deputies later found Brown on Givens Lane. They searched his vehicle and found 1 gram of marijuana and 5.5 grams of cocaine.

When deputies spoke with Brown about the incident, he stated "he was angry about his property being missing," so he destroyed  the house and threw shoes inside the pond. Brown also said the victim "got in his face so he pushed her away." He denied any knowledge of the cocaine but admitted the marijuana was his.

According to documents, Brown was arrested and transported to the Leon County Detention Facility. He is facing a series of charges including aggravated battery and cocaine possession.

Brown has since bonded out.
