TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Leon County Sheriff's Office is investigating after receiving a complaint that Leon High School staff failed to report multiple sexual batteries committed by one of their students.

LCSO Spokesman Dave Teems says a Leon High student is the suspect in a string of sexual batteries. He says the juvenile was arrested for two of the five cases he's suspected in.

According to Teems, the two cases the juvenile was arrested for involved battery and sexual battery charges. The juvenile is also under investigation in two other cases. A fifth case was closed due to lack of evidence.

The investigation into Leon High began when a complaint was taken to LCSO on July 17, alleging that the school failed to report the incidents.

State law requires that schools report 26 difference incidents of crime, violence, and disruptive behaviors "that occur on school grounds, on school transportation, and at off-campus, school-sponsored events, during any 24-hour period, 365 days per year."

Leon County Schools' spokesman Chris Petley has released the following statement regarding the investigation:

"The safety of our students will always be our number one priority.

LCS has been made aware that the Leon County Sheriff's Office is investigating whether Leon High School is in compliance with Florida’s mandatory reporting policy.

The Leon High staff fully complied with a DCF investigation into an off campus incident and they will continue to cooperate with any other agencies as needed.

Superintendent Hanna has been in contact with the leadership at DCF and our entities will work together throughout this process as allowed."

We have requested the documents involving the juvenile's five cases and will update the story once we receive them.
