LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - When celebrating the New Year Monday night, the Leon County Sheriff's Office wants to remind you to not use your guns.

LCSO Public Information Officer, Deputy Dave Teems, said for safety reasons, one should never fire weapons into the air.

Teems said stray bullets are deadly and 'what goes up must come down'.

"Firing a weapon at something that you don't intend to kill or at something without a paper or a safe background is never safe. You want to know what happens to that bullet after it leaves the chamber," said Teems. "You want to make sure that if you're shooting that gun you know where it's going to go. Shooting up in the air is very dangerous because you don't know where it's going to come down at."

Teems added if you do hear gunshots contact LCSO immediately.
