LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - The Leon County Sheriff's Office is warning residents about a man posing as a medical doctor from California, stealing money from women he meets online.

LCSO says Brian Wedgeworth, nicknamed the "Casanova Scammer," poses as a medical doctor from California and is known for defrauding women he meets on internet dating websites out of thousands of dollars. LCSO states his alias is "Brian Anderson, M.D."

LCSO says Wedgeworth served seven years in prison, pleading guilty to identity fraud, forgery, and other charges in a case involving two victims from DeKalb County, Georgia.

He was released from prison in Feb. 2017 and has since reportedly scammed more women throughout the southeast, including an incident in the Jacksonville area.

LCSO has received a report that Wedgeworth is now in the Tallahassee area and once again targeting women.

LCSO says if you believe you have been a victim, please contact them at 850-606-3300.
