LCSO begins testing for new Operations Response Center

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Leon County Sheriff's Office began testing Wednesday for its new Operations Response Center.

It's based on a national model and allows for city, county, and state officials to work together with and public works providers.

When manned, trained staff representatives from critical departments would work extended shifts from the Operations Response Center to ensure public safety. From that secured location, they'd coordinate with field officers, including air support, SWAT teams, and responder organizations like the Red Cross.

"We'll have a lot of moving parts going on here to see if we are prepared for that because we don't want to wait until we get in an incident to see if we're ready," said Steve Harrelson, Chief of Administrative Services. "We want to make sure we're ready before it happens."

The Leon County Sheriff's Office also plans to have a follow-up testing session in June.
