LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - A man wanted in the brutal murder of a 23-year-old victim in Tallahassee early Sunday morning has been arrested by U.S. Marshals.
The Leon County Sheriff's office says that on Tuesday, members of the U.S. Marshals Violent Task Force arrested 31-year-old Gregory Williams in Tallahassee. He was arrested in connection with the shooting death of 23-year-old Travis McNeil.
Through an investigation, LCSO learned that McNeil and Williams were acquaintances attending a party on Ellis Road when the shooting took place.
According to court documents, early Sunday morning, deputies responded to a home in the 100 block of Ellis Road about a deceased person. Once on scene, deputies found McNeil dead in the living room of a home from a gunshot wound.
When an autopsy was performed on McNeil, investigators discovered he was shot three times, once in the back of the head, once on the side of the jaw, and once on the side of his neck.
Documents say witnesses told investigators that on Saturday night, Williams grabbed a liquor bottle and drank from it, before walking next to McNeil and firing a gun shot into the air.
After the first gunshot, witnesses say Williams asked McNeil, "Are you scared now?" Documents say McNeil responded saying, "No, I'm not scared." That's when Williams pointed the gun at McNeil's head and shot him, according to court documents.
Williams attempted to shoot McNeil again, but his gun jammed. After that, McNeil walked inside the home and stood near the hallway, according to witnesses. Williams walked in a short while later and went up to McNeil.
The witnesses told investigators that Williams then got close to the victim, put a black handgun to his neck, and shot him. He shot McNeil a second time, the witnesses said, and the 23-year-old fell to the floor.
Court documents say Williams then turned around and walked out of the home, and drove away in his car.
Williams has been charged with first degree murder.
