TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Tallahassee man was arrested after an argument about breaking up led to him hitting and choking his girlfriend as well as stealing $600 in cash from her.
Anthony Rogers, 33, was arrested by the Leon County Sheriff's Office on Friday.
On June 28, deputies responded to the intersection of Ellis Drive and Buck Lake Road in response to a domestic disturbance.
Deputies said they were flagged down by the victim on Buck Lake Road, who was upset and crying.
While talking with deputies, she said her boyfriend, Rogers, had just beat her up.
She stated that her and Rogers have been dating and living together since Nov. 2017.
The victim told deputies they were arguing because Rogers wanted to break up with her.
She said she saw texts on his phone that stated he wanted to replace her as a girlfriend.
According to the police report, after the victim got mad and threw a mirror, Rogers came into her bedroom and grabbed her by the neck, making it hard for the victim to breathe at one point.
While still holding on to her neck, Rogers threw her on the bedroom floor and then into the closet.
Once Rogers left the bedroom, the victim said she grabbed her phone and was in the process of dialing 911, when Rogers came back into the bedroom, taking her phone.
The police report states the victim then ran out of the home and realized her tablet, along with $600 in cash was still inside.
She said when she went back inside to grab the tablet off the kitchen counter, Rogers came into the kitchen, slapped her across the head, and pushed her to the ground.
The victim told deputies when she went into her bedroom to get her money, it was gone. That's when she ran to the intersection of Ellis Drive and Buck Lake Road to flag down deputies.
Deputies saw bruising around the victim's neck and a small red contusion on the left side of her head. They also saw a cut on her leg that required 17 stitches.
Based on the evidence, Rogers is being charged with domestic battery by strangulation, domestic felony battery, tampering with the victim, and grand theft of $300 or more but less than $5,000.
He is currently being held at the Leon County Detention Center on $2,500 bond.
