LCSO advises residents to buy security systems to help stop thieves

LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - The Leon County Sheriff's Office is advising residents to purchase security systems to stop thieves from burglarizing their home.

LCSO says just a simple sign outside warning potential thieves about your security system could prevent them from entering your home.

Deputy Dave Teems also adds having bright lights outside of your home could deter crime.

"Getting to know your neighbors really well. Not leaving things out and around that could attract thieves. Like when you buy something new don't leave the box outside on trash day," said Teems. "Those are things that thieves look for, also put something in front of your doors or windows like a bush with thorns, make it hard for someone that wants to get in."

Teems says over the past 90 days, LCSO reports that there were 127 car burglaries and at least 105 those were due to unlocked doors.
