LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Leon County Schools are preparing for the solar eclipse happening on Monday, August 21.

After meeting with his leadership team and speaking with local experts and other North Florida superintendents, Rocky Hanna, the Superintendent of Schools, has made the decision to alter the school schedule.

Hanna says the safety of our students will always be his number one concern.

Hanna further states that out of an abundance of caution, the district made the decision to adjust dismissal times for schools on Monday, August 21, 2017:

  • high schools at 12:50 p.m.
  • elementary schools 3:30 p.m.
  • middle schools at 4:10 p.m.

Additionally, all outdoor afternoon activities are to be postponed or held indoors until 4:00 p.m.

Parents are advised work with their child's school to address any early pick-ups or excused absences.
