TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Leon County School Board is expected to vote on a resolution that would make sure teachers cannot be armed in any of their schools.

This proposal to ban teachers from having guns in Leon County Schools goes against the recent school safety bill signed by Governor Rick Scott.

Scott approved a bill on March 9 that would create a "school guardian program," allowing trained school workers to carry handguns.

The resolution on Tuesday's school board meeting agenda says many in the community have said they're concerned about student safety, that's why the board wants only sworn law enforcement officers to carry a gun on campus.

"We ask teachers to do enough," said Superintendent Rocky Hanna. "I think tonight kind of reaffirms what I've been saying and have been very outspoken about for a while is only certified law-enforcement officers will be allowed to carry weapons on our campus."

The resolution comes two days after emotional March for Our Lives rallies in Tallahassee and hundreds of other cities across the globe.
