LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - We're finding out how much it's going to cost the Leon County School District to add more school resource officers to meet the state mandate.

The law was enacted after the massacre of 17 students and teachers in Parkland Florida, in February.

The Leon County School Board will be getting a look at the district's proposed tentative budget for next year.

We gave you an overview of that budget last week, when it was brought up at the regular school board meeting. But Tuesday night, we're seeing specific numbers about how much the School Safety allocations from the state are actually going to cover.

Leon County Schools says that the funding is going up from $1.2 million to $2.5 million.

That's going to help cover the hiring three additional School Resource Deputies (SRDs) to cover three elementary schools in the unincorporated areas of Leon County. That's going to cost an additional $352,000.

Some of the extra money will also be used to help boost the school's off-duty program, staffing elementary schools with off-duty LCSO deputies and Tallahassee police officers.
