LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - The Leon County School Board is asking parents to weigh in on school calendar options for the next two years.
Thursday, messages went out to parents via ListServ stating that this year, LCS is providing calendar options for the 2019 - 2020 and the 2020 - 2021 school year.
The survey offers up two options for each school year.
School officials say the options were created based on the input of various stakeholders, including students, faculty, and community partners.
Parents are asked to review and complete the survey by selecting whatever option suits them best. They have until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 to complete the survey.
Leon County Schools' district advisory council will then review the collected information to make a recommendation to the school board on Feb. 12.
A summaries for each option is as follows:
Option 1 (2019-2020)
- Begins school year August 12, 2019
- Fall Holiday on September 30, 2019
- Ends first 9-weeks October 11, 2019
- Retains Thanksgiving week holidays for students and teachers. Administrators’ holidays on Thanksgiving and day after.
- Ends second 9-weeks/First semester December 20, 2019
- Winter Holidays December 23, 2019 - January 3, 2020
- Ends third 9-weeks March 13, 2020
- Spring Break March 16-20, 2020
- Spring Holiday on April 10, 2020
- Ends school year Friday, May 29, 2020
Option 2 (2019-2020)
Same as Option 1 with following exceptions:
- Eliminates first two days of Thanksgiving week as holidays for students and teachers. Thanksgiving and day after remain as holidays for everyone.
- Eliminates Presidents’ Day holiday on February 17, 2020).
- Eliminates Spring Holiday on April 10, 2020.
- Ends school year on Friday, May 22, 2020 (before Memorial Day).
Option 1 (2020 - 2021)
- Begins school year August 10, 2020
- Fall Holiday on September 28, 2020
- Ends first 9-weeks October 9, 2020
- Retains Thanksgiving week holidays for students and teachers. Administrators’ holidays on Thanksgiving and day after.
- Ends second 9-weeks/First semester December 18, 2020
- Winter Holidays December 21, 2020 -January 1, 2021
- Ends third 9-weeks March 12, 2021
- Spring Break March 15-19, 2021
- Spring Holiday on April 9, 2021
- Ends school year Thursday, May 27, 2021(before Memorial Day)
Option 2 (2020 - 2021)
Same as Option 1 with following exceptions:
- Eliminates first two days of Thanksgiving week as holidays for students and teachers. Thanksgiving and day after remain as holidays for everyone.
- Eliminates Presidents’ Day holiday on February 15, 2021.
- Eliminates Spring Holiday on April 9, 2021.
- Ends school year Friday, May 21 2021 (before Memorial Day).
