TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - The attorneys for a suspect in the murder of FSU law professor Dan Markel have asked to prohibit any mention of the suspect's gang affiliation with the Latin Kings during the trial.
Luis Rivera's attorneys detailed in a motion that they wanted to prevent any mention of Rivera's gang affiliation with the Latin Kings because they felt it was irrelevant and would cause unfair jury bias.
Before the information can be omitted, a judge must approve the motion first.
According to the Leon County court's website, there has also been a motion hearing scheduled for Rivera on Oct. 6th regarding a change of venue.
No such date or motion has been filed for Sigfredo Garcia, the other man charged in the death of Markel.
