GWINNETT COUNTY, GA (RNN) - A man's widow has filed a wrongful death suit against Publix and Southeastern Protection Services, Inc. after he died from a fall into a deep fryer while cleaning a kitchen vent at a Publix store.

Chrissie McGee Blount filed suit in state civil court June 7 over the 2015 death of her husband, Mansur Blount, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Blount, 37, was a vent hood technician whose job it was to clean vent hoods at various businesses.

He was cleaning a kitchen vent hood at a Publix location in Dacula on June 25, 2015, when the mishap occurred.

Blount didn't know that a deep fryer filled with hot oil had been left below the vent where he was working, covered with a thin metal lid.

He stood with his left leg on the metal cover when it gave way, and his leg fell into the deep fryer, causing severe burns.

Blount died from his injuries at Grady Memorial Hospital on July 4, 2015.

In the lawsuit, McGee Blount seeks "the full value of the life of Mansur Blount," as well related fees and court costs, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution said.
