TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - A state lawmaker has filed legislation to create an inspector general position to oversee the state-backed Citizens Property Insurance Corp.
State Rep. David Richardson of Miami Beach filed a bill (HB 433) Tuesday that adds an inspector general to the list of 31 other state agencies where statute requires that level of oversight.
A review by Florida's chief inspector general determined that some employees at Citizens racked up excessive travel expenses over an eight-month period. The review found more than 50 instances where senior managers were reimbursed for meals in their own hometowns and that former Citizens President Tom Grady took a limousine from his house to the airport.
