TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Deputies still have not been able to pinpoint exactly who had the gun when a person was shot on I-10 Westbound at Baum Road and have started an investigation.
Lt. Grady Jordan with the Leon County Sheriff's Office said that around 10:20 a.m. on Thursday, a group that contracts with the Department of Transportation was out around that area picking up trash when a worker found a gun in a ditch.
When picked up, the gun fired, hitting one person in the chest.
911 was called and the victim was transported to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. Deputies said that the victim is in stable condition.
Deputies said that at this point, it's still unclear who had the gun when it went off, but they have discovered that the pistol was reported stolen to the Okaloosa Sheriff's Office.
They said that detectives were continuing the investigation to figure out exactly what happened.
