FRANKLIN COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Some people have been evacuated from their homes as a large fire threatens parts of St. George Island.
Franklin County Sheriff A.J. Smith says the fire is believed to have started while a homeowner was burning leaves. The fire then spread, taking over "blocks and blocks" of East Pine Avenue. Sheriff Smith says crews have been fighting the fire for hours and some evacuations had to be made.
Sheriff Smith says right now, crews are trying to keep the fire from damaging or destroying any homes.
