LANIER CO. (WTXL)-- A man is in the hospital after being shot twice by deputies in Lanier County.
41-year-old Timothy Blanton is in stable condition after he and deputies got into a shooting match Saturday evening.
Deputies responded to a complaint that a person who was possibly intoxicated was firing a gun. When they arrived to the scene, they found Blanton firing the weapon. Deputies then called for backup from the Georgia State Patrol. Upon arrival, contact was made and an exchange of fire began between deputies and Blanton. Blanton was hit twice.
Blanton was then taken to South Georgia Medical center for treatment and is currently is stable condition. As of now, charges are pending but no warrants have been taken for him.
A Sheriff's Office spokesperson said:" Our hearts go out to the families involved and we regret that such action had to be taken. It is a terrible situation but could have turned out much worse. We are very thankful for all the Fire, EMS, hospital and law enforcement professionals who responded and assisted in the unfortunate incident."
