TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Leon County Schools will soon have a new grading system for kindergarten and first grade students.
Right now, those students are being graded on an "A" through "F" scale.
The new grading system will go into effect next school year, and will only affect those in the first grade or kindergarten.
As for what will be changing? Well, leon county schools will no longer be using "D's" and "F's" to grade the younger children.
Instead, those students will be graded with on a scale using, A, B, C, and "N", where the "N" will indicate that a student is still struggling in that area.
By removing the "D" and "F" from the scale, the hope is that the younger students will not be discouraged about school and think of themselves as failures.
The school board, teachers, and elementary schools have been working on together on this new grading system.
