ATLANTA (AP) - Officials from the Georgia Department of Public Safety say seven people were killed in crashes during Memorial Day weekend.
Officials say fatal crashes were reported in Brunswick, Thomasville, Reidsville, Milledgeville, Washington and Fulton County.
Officials say state troopers investigated 490 crashes over the long weekend and the crashes resulted in 258 injuries.
In a statement Friday, Georgia State Patrol Col. Mark McDonough said state troopers would increase patrols to look for impaired drivers, seatbelt violations and other offenses during the long weekend.
McDonough said in 2012, state troopers investigated 326 crashes during the holiday weekend that resulted in 278 injuries and six deaths.
