(WTXL) - A threatening phone call put a central Florida father into a panic.
The caller claimed he had kidnapped the man's daughter but it was all a scam.
Patrick Mcdonald is the father of a teenage girl and says the torturous phone call felt like it lasted a lifetime.
Even though he knew his daughter was safe at school it still scared him and now he wants to warn others.
He says not to believe the male voice and to alert authorities.
It is called virtual kidnapping, an extortion scheme where the scammer tries to trick a parent into paying a ransom.
The FBI says if you get a call like this remain calm and never reveal your child's name or any identifying details and report the number of the caller to authorities immediately.
