TAYLOR COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - A woman who was kidnapped from her North Florida home is safe and her ex-boyfriend is dead after a standoff at the Steinhatchee River Inn in Taylor County.
The Taylor County Sheriff's Office says that 35-year-old Mellisa Infinger, who was reported missing out of Bradford County, was rescued after a stand off Monday morning.
On Monday at approximately 9 a.m., detectives with the Bradford County Sheriff’s Office discovered a possible location of the vehicle Infinger was last seen in.
TCSO was contacted and deputies responded to the Steinhatchee River Inn (1111 Riverside Dr. Steinhatchee, FL) where they discovered the vehicle in the parking lot.
After figuring out the room they were in, deputies came into the room and found both Infinger and her ex-boyfriend, James Busbee, alive.
However, Busbee quickly armed himself with a 9mm handgun as Sheriff Padgett removed Infinger from the room. After a brief standoff, Busbee shot himself in the head.
Medical units arrived on scene and found Busbee to still be alive. He was life-flighted to an area hospital before dying from his injuries.
Bradford County detectives are currently interviewing Infinger to understand what had been happening since Friday evening.
So far, detectives have learned that she was taken at gunpoint from her home on Saturday morning. After driving south towards Tampa, Busbee diverted to Taylor County where they stayed until deputies contacted them Monday morning.
