MIAMI (AP) — A Kenyan man charged in the U.S. with attempting to support foreign terrorist organizations wants a judge to throw out key computer-related evidence against him.
The attorney for 27-year-old Mohamed Said says authorities cannot prove that Said was actually using certain computers during online chats with an undercover FBI employee. Said's lawyer says without witnesses or other proof, prosecutors cannot conclusively show it was Said who participated in the chats.
A March 4 hearing is set on the issue in Miami federal court. Said has pleaded not guilty to eight charges of conspiracy and attempted terrorism material support to a Syrian terror group and Africa's al-Shabaab organization.
Co-defendant Gufran Mohammed was sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty in July to a terrorism support conspiracy charge.
