VALDOSTA, GA (WTXL) -- The family of Kendrick Johnson is continuing to look for answers after their son's death nearly three years ago.
Kendrick's body was found in a rolled-up mat at Lowndes High School's gym in January 2013.
His family had filed a wrongful death lawsuit, accusing several groups of covering up his death and not coming forward with information. That suit was dropped in May 2016.
In June 2016, the U.S. Department of Justice chose not to file charges in his death, prompting the accused parties to sue the Johnsons to pay for court fees.
Thursday, the family started hearing reports of a judge ordering them to pay those costs, but Johnson's parents tell WTXL that nothing official has been sent to their attorney.
Jacquelyn Johnson, Kendrick's mother, says this legal battle is a distraction from the family's purpose.
"There's no stopping because of what they keep throwing at us. That's all it is," she said. "It's something that they keep trying to throw us to silence us, but we -- my husband and I -- will not be silenced -- not when it comes to our son. We know he was killed at Lowndes High School. It's time for somebody to be held responsible and take accountability to what has been done at that schoolhouse."
The family tells WTXL it has filed another lawsuit, but did not provide details about its nature.
