VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) The family of Valdosta teen Kendrick Johnson is suing the Lowndes County School District, for what they call negligence leading up to his death.
The lawsuit was filed late Tuesday afternoon at the Lowndes County Superior Court.
The family says they believe failure to protect 17-year-old Kendrick Johnson from harassment and bullying ultimately led to his death.
The attorney for the Lowndes County Schools say at this time the district hasn't been served with any such suit. He says therefore, it's premature and inappropriate to make a public comment on the matter at this time.
Johnson was found dead inside a rolled up gym mat inside the Lowndes High School's gym in January 2013.
Investigators ruled the death an accident, but a private pathologist hired by the family called it a homicide.
