TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)--The parents of Jonathan Ferrell are honoring their son's memory by helping children in Tallahassee. Ferrell is the former FAMU football player killed by a North Carolina police officer.

His family collected toys Saturday at The Character Center. Ferrell's mother, Georgia, says Jonathan loved giving back to his community and mentoring young people.

Georgia says if Jonathan were alive today this is something he would've done himself.

"He would be very happy," said Georgia Ferrell. "Jon would be happy because he was a giving person. He loved to give. I don't care who, he would give to you."

If you weren't able to make it to the toy drive, you can visit the "Justice For Jon" Facebook page. Organizers say drop-off centers are being added daily.
