TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Florida State University president,John Thrasher co-taught a group of 6th graders Thursday.
It was all about of the "FSU Teach Program" which works to remedy the shortage of STEM based teachers.
Thrasher co-taught the course with Nancy Narvaez-Garcia.
Garcia is a graduate of the FSU Teach Program.
The class was taught at Fairview Middle School on Thursday.
The goal of the program is to make stem subjects more interesting and relevant.
Thrasher discussed why he believes the program is an important opportunity for children.
"We're here to support our FSU Teach Program and its been a successful program and teachers are out here from that program," Thrasher said. "It's an on going program. A number of states have adopted this program where they emphasize science and math and we're going to try to build on it."
The university tries to make the process of teaching the STEM fields interesting for students.
