TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)-- The John G. Riley House and Museum kicked off its Emancipation Festival of Freedom this weekend in Tallahassee.

Many came out to Saturday's event to participate in a free guided tour of the museum.

Folks enjoyed free food, door prizes and giveaways.

We spoke with Marion McGee with the Riley Museum about importance of celebrating this day.

"When you look at the Independence Day in 1776 not everyone was free and we really want to everyone to thinking about the freedoms and the sacrifices made," said McGee.

The John G. Riley House and Museum is ending this year's week long celebration with an Emancipation and Abolitionist Ball on next Saturday 8 p.m.
