VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - More than 50 Georgians will be hired temporarily under a program to help their fellow citizens recover from Hurricane Irma.
The hiring event will be Monday, November 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Valdosta Career Center, located at 221 South Ashley St., Valdosta, Ga.
The Georgia Department of Labor and the Federal Emergency Management Agency are hosting FEMA's Local Hire Program.
Local Hire positions in Georgia pay between $18 and $45 per hour, and may lead to longer-termemployment opportunities with state and federal emergency management agencies. Candidates must be U.S. citizens 18 years of age or older.
Duty stations are in Albany, Atlanta, Brunswick, Savannah and Warner Robins, but you may live outside of these areas and commute with your own resources.
If you plan to attend the hiring event, bring at least one copy of your resume and two valid forms of ID. Be prepared to complete a full job application, be interviewed on the spot, and be processed for a background check.
Among the positions, FEMA is seeking applicants for are more than 40 Public Assistance Site Inspector openings for the Public Assistance program in Albany, Atlanta, Brunswick, Savannah and Warner Robins.
Knowledge or experience related to construction, construction management, project management, engineering tech or public works is ideal but not required.
