JEFFERSON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - The longtime clerk of court for Jefferson County has been arrested, accused of stealing a laptop.

A complaint was filed against Kirk Reams on Monday for petit theft. He turned himself in on Monday, but was released on his own recognizance.

According to a probable cause document, the Florida Department of law Enforcement met with the Jefferson County Sheriff regarding allegations against Reams from his ex-girlfriend.

The ex-girlfriend alleged that Reams had taken nude photographs of her inside the Jefferson County Courthouse. Though authorities were able to find evidence of the photos, "the circumstances surrounding how they were obtained did not constitute a crime."

The ex-girlfriend also claimed that Reams gave her a laptop for personal use that was the county's property. She said Reams told her that it was an extra laptop from the courthouse that was not currently in use.

An investigation revealed that from January 2013 to February 2014, Reams provided his then girlfriend with the laptop for her personal use.

"In doing so," the probable cause document says, "Reams temporarily deprived the Jefferson County Commission of the aforementioned [laptop] in violation of Florida State Statue §812.014(2)(e), a first degree misdemeanor."

Jefferson County Vice Chair Stephen Fulford says there will be emergency session Wednesday night to take up a letter of support for Reams to send to Jack Campell and the Governor Rick Scott.

Reams' lawyer has also filed a motion to disqualify the chief judge presiding over the case.
