Port Charlotte, FL- Eleven years after his historic visit to the area in the wake of Hurricane Charley, presidential hopeful and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush will visit Charlotte High School Friday during a campaign stop in Charlotte County.
The Republican candidate’s campaign announced the “Charlotte County Tailgate with Jeb Bush” event on Bush’s website earlier this month. Though details of his visit are sparse, local party leaders say Bush’s reasons for making an appearance at Tarpon Stadium in Punta Gorda this week are obvious: in 2004, just weeks after Hurricane Charley ransacked the area, then-governor Bush attended a football game between rivals Port Charlotte and Charlotte high schools. Bush did the ceremonial coin-toss.
Bush, once a front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination, now trails in the polls behind front-runners Ben Carson and Donald Trump.
