JASPER, Fla. (WTXL) - The City of Jasper is officially looking for an interim City Manager.

They voted to start the search during Monday's City Commission meeting

It's been a little over three weeks since Charles Williams resigned from his position as City Manager of Jasper Florida.

Now the City Commission has come together to open up a search for an interim City Manager until they can find a permanent solution.

Mayor Darnell Lumpkins said that "We're gonna have to go through the book and get the qualifications that the position calls for. We're gonna look at it close and make sure we don't have the same problems we had in the past."

During Monday's City Mission meeting, Lumpkins, city officials and others were focused on filling the vacant city manager position.

Former City Manager Charles Williams resigned May 22 due to allegations made by City Clerk Jennifer Hightower, who claimed Williams constantly threatened her at work while carrying a firearm.

A representative from the League of Cities offered to assist the City of Jasper during their search at no cost and the City Commission unanimously agreed.

"We all pay dues to belong to this organization and one of the services is to provide help to cities like jasper when they're going through things like this," said Buz Eddy of the Florida League of Cities.

The Jasper City Commission is looking to make the interim position 20 hours per week and also half the salary of the former city manager.
