TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL/AP) - After Florida State University's star quarterback jumped on a table and yelled an obscene phrase, Jameis Winston was suspended from this weeks game against Clemson.
Florida State is currently under investigation by the Department of Education for the way it handles reports of sexual assault, including a case involving Winston. The investigation was prompted by a complaint from a FSU student who says Winston assaulted her in 2012.
A Florida State Attorney declined to press charges against Winston last fall.
A lawyer for the woman says the university is currently conducting its own investigation of that incident.
No. 1 Florida State hosts No. 22 Clemson Saturday.
Statement from FSU:
As the university’s most visible ambassadors, student-athletes at Florida State are expected to uphold at all times high standards of integrity and behavior that reflect well upon themselves, their families, coaches, teammates, the Department of Athletics and Florida State University. Student-athletes are expected to act in a way that reflects dignity and respect for others.
As a result of his comments yesterday, which were offensive and vulgar, Jameis Winston will undergo internal discipline and will be withheld from competition for the first half of the Clemson game.
The University and athletics department will have no further comment on the matter.
