LOWNDES COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL)--A Jacksonville man who deputies say had a stolen assault rifle and body armor is now behind bars after a high speed chase.
On Sunday morning around 7:30, Lowndes County deputies were given a BOLO from Florida law enforcement for a non-law enforcement vehicle headed north on the interstate with blue strobe lights.
A deputy spotted the vehicle near exit five, but it wouldn't stop. They say speeds were reaching over 100 miles per hour.
At times, the driver even swerved to hit troopers and deputies involved in the chase.
The pursuit continued on into Cook County. That's when the Cook County Sheriff's Office joined in.
A PIT maneuver was used to stop the driver. He was identified as 28-year-old Isaiah Quarterman. Deputies and troopers say he was wearing Kevlar body armor, and they found a handgun and an M-4 rifle, all of which had been stolen out of Florida. They say the lights were stolen as well.
He's charged with fleeing and attempting to elude, aggravated assault on law enforcement, theft by bringing stolen property into the state, speeding, operating blue lights without permit, and reckless driving.
No bond has been set.
