MADISON Co., Fla., (WTXL) -- A Jacksonville man attempts to shoot his girlfriend’s brother, according to Madison County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said they responded to the 200 block of Diving Bird Loop Saturday after a woman called claiming her daughter’s boyfriend was trying to shoot her son.

The report states witnesses told deputies 62-year-old Vernnal Anthony Alexander, got out of his car and pointed the shotgun at the victim and said he was going to shoot him.

Deputies said a witness nearby grabbed the gun and pointed it towards the ground as Alexander fired the gun. The witness was able to take the gun away from Alexander.

According to deputies, they found the shotgun on a set of steps leading to the entrance of the residence where Alexander was temporarily staying.

MCSO says the doorway was open and Alexander was seen standing inside, before voluntarily coming out.

They say Alexander appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.

He was taken into custody and booked in the Madison County jail.

Alexander is charged with attempted murder, discharging a firearm within 100 feet of a person, use of firearm under the influence, and improper exhibition of a firearm.
