JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — An off-duty Jacksonville detective shot and seriously wounded while taking his son to school has been upgraded to good condition.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office on Tuesday posted on its Twitter account that the detective who was listed in critical condition was upgraded and continues to improve.
Police say the plainclothes narcotics detective was shot by 19-year-old Kevin Rojas on Wednesday after the officer pulled Rojas over for driving erratically.
Because the detective works undercover, authorities did not release his name.
Rojas was later shot four times by two officers after fleeing the scene, and was in stable condition after being hospitalized.
Police say Rojas had threatened to kill himself and his girlfriend prior to the traffic stop, and that he used a gun stolen from his roommate.
