LEON COUNTY, FL (WTXL) - On Saturday, candidate Jackie Pons ran an ad attacking his opponent Rocky Hanna and received some negative backlash.
The ad only ran one time but all four candidates in the superintendent of schools race had something to say about it. Forest Van Camp felt that the feuding between Hanna and Pons has been going on forever and that's why he was running.
"These past 4 years of feuds between Mr. Hanna and Pons have been detrimental to our schools...the flames are getting hire as we get closer to the election," said Van Camp.
The subject of the ad, Hanna, was not pleased to see the commercial.
He said, "I'm just very disappointed, I'm disappointed that the superintendent of schools who's charged with overseeing our children would actually attack a child and my child. I heard earlier today that he has issued an apology, and I do believe in apologies. But he did not have to show that video to my daughter yesterday. He has no idea what that feels like."
After not responding to attempt to reach him on Monday, Pons finally issued an apology through an email.
"I would like to apologize to Mr. Hanna and his family, our community and everyone involved. The ad was pulled from the airwaves Monday morning. I look ahead to moving forward to talk about the positive impact our district has on our community for the previous 10 years," said Pons.
The election to decide who will be the next school superintendent for Leon County is November 8th.
