GADSDEN CO., Fla. (WTXL) - The city of Midway is being investigated by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
Midway's city manager Dorothy Inman-Johnson told WTXL ABC27 in an exclusive interview on Wednesday that it is an administrative dispute they are working to resolve with the IRS.
The IRS came to Midway's City Hall late last week with a notice, saying there were discrepancies in taxes from 2013.
"We were hit with a big surprise very recently, right at the time when I felt we had turned the corner, we had corrected all our problems at Midway, something came out of the blue that we totally didn't expect," said Johnson.
Inman-Johnson said she was not aware of it and the city council was not aware of it until they were given the notice.
Inman-Johnson said, "Basically, we have an administrative dispute with the IRS that we are actively working to resolve and we expect to have it resolved in short order."
According to Inman-Johnson, they are holding a special meeting of the council Wednesday night to discuss this issue. The meeting is a closed meeting, meaning no one but city council members are allowed.
