TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Authorities near Tampa are investigating an inmate death.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office says 25-year-old Troy Zimmerman was taken to Brandon Hospital Wednesday.
Jail records show that Zimmerman got up for breakfast at about 4 a.m. Wednesday and was interacting with other inmates. After breakfast he went back to bed. Other inmates alerted deputies after hearing him snoring and then gasping.
The jail's on-site medical staff assisted him until paramedics arrived and took him to the hospital.
An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.
Zimmerman was booked into jail on Aug. 16 and was serving a 364-day sentence.
