TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - An inmate at the Leon County Detention Facility is facing battery charges after he stabbed another inmate in the face and eye with a wooden pencil.
Leon Camel has been charged with aggravated battery.
According to arrest documents, a fight broke out between Camel and another inmate on Saturday. Deputies heard Camel yelling, "Don't touch me!" and "I told you not to touch me, dog."
When deputies came to his cell, they saw another inmate bleeding profusely from his right eye, nose and mouth. After separating the two, the document says Camel continued to yell at the other inmate.
When asked what happened, the victim said Camel scratched his eye and grabbed him around the throat. Upon examination, the victim was found to have puncture wounds on his upper lip, gums inside his mouth, and on his right eye.
A witness to the incident told deputies he saw Camel stabbing the victim with a pencil.
Later on, a nurse advised the victim needed to go to the hospital for further treatment. Before the victim was transported, deputies interviewed him.
The victim said he saw Camel go into a blue tub before assaulting him, but he didn't know what he grabbed. After that, the victim said Camel quickly jumped on him.
According to the victim, it happened so fast the victim originally thought Camel had just poked him in the eye with his finger.
As the victim was talking to investigators, documents note he kept moving his tongue around his mouth. When asked what he was doing, the victim said he felt something and pulled out pieces of broken wood and lead from his mouth.
Based on the evidence, Camel was charged with aggravated battery.
