GADSDEN COUNTY, Fl. (WTXL) - According to "Associated Marine Institutes", also known as "AMI kids", nearly three million crimes are committed by children each year. The local AMI Kids program in Gadsden County is working towards fighting those odds.
In an attempt to decrease criminal activity in the area, Gadsden County Sheriff Morris Young is launching an initiative to help keep youth out of jail.
In partnership with AMIKids Gadsden, the 6 week long program gives students the opportunity to become job ready by helping them build resumes; as well as become certified in culinary arts and information technology.
The program also shows them that every decision has a consequence.
Organizers with the program say they just want to show the students, that there are other options out there.
Program organizers hope to create a similar after school program this coming fall.
