TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - As 2017 wraps up, we're taking a look at the leaders we lost in the community this year.
Lowndes County Deputy Michael Butler died in the line of duty in February. The 39-year-old deputy was responding to a domestic call with his lights and sirens on. A semi with no trailer crossed the center line and the two crashed head-on.
Butler's patrol car caught fire and the semi-truck driver pulled him out, but it was too late. Butler died at the hospital.
It's a loss the deputy's friends, family, and the Lowndes County Sheriff's office won't soon forget.
